Product placements!

Being a new brand or a new entrant to a certain market comes with not having a huge amount of capital to splurge on marketing. So new brands often look at other ways to promote themselves. One way, which is not so recent but at the same time not a tried and tested method, is product placements in music videos. These are certainly becoming much more common nowadays as we always see some big brand with a product placement in artists music videos.

Product placements are great as they can lead to an increase of almost 8% in the purchase intent of consumers as well as increased perception. This is such a big deal as these numbers might even be bigger than the result of a full-fledged marketing campaign and at the same time being much cheaper. The only thing that they have to careful about is having too many brands in the videos or showing the product off too much.

I think What the French?! Did a great job when they decided to insert their product into a music video. They decided the artist to be Black M, who is a French rapper. The choice is correct as this brand’s audience is the younger generation and Black M is a rapper that appeals to the younger generation.

The music video was a hit with over 11 million views on YouTube and in general was received very positively. The brand was only shown for almost 5 seconds on the video, but this might have increased their sales by quite a good amount as fans of the artist might be willing to give the product a try as well as the brand is able to increase their brand awareness. Since the audience has already shifted from a product focused audience to a brand focused one, product placements have become a necessity to showcase a sense of credibility as well as to just remain relevant in this rapidly growing market.
